For those of you who haven't seen it at https://hjcl.play-cricket.com/news_details?article_id=180305&date_range=last_year&keyword=&model_name=NewsArticle&news_type=news&page=1 following the government giving the green light we are making preparations for the return of junior cricket.
Specifically for the Under 9s and bearing in mind distancing guidelines and the need to minimise risk we are proposing that we do not run tournaments in 2020 but will arrange individual fixtures instead. These will begin on Saturday 25th July and run for seven weeks. They will be published on hjcl.play-cricket.com in the near future.
We want to be able to maximise the amount of cricket that our youngest players get and so would strongly encourage team managers to make contact with each other prior to the weekend and agree formats which would suit availability between the two teams.
- 12 over 6-a-side games (which could be run on two pitches if there are 24 players available) with winners playing each other in a second game.
- 8-a-side games of 16 overs, played over two innings to minimise waiting time for batters.
- 2x8-a-side games of 8 overs with the second game mixing the teams up to get a closer game.
- 10-a-side games of 20 overs, played over two innings to minimise waiting time for batters
This should accommodate any number of players and give all the chance to get involved. There is total flexibility for you to agree between you.
If any team feels that they will not be able to field a side this season please could I ask that you let Phil Senior and myself know by 14th July so that we can prepare fixtures.
As the fixtures will be on play-cricket, if there are any individual fixtures, once published, which you are unable to fulfil please mark them as conceded as soon as you are aware and contact the opposition manager. There is an odd number of clubs so if you are left without a fixture please do review the list and see if any clubs have suffered a concession and make an arrangement to get a game on.
There will be no end of season tournament and, while games on play-cricket can be scored on the app, there is no requirement to. League tables will not be published, this is just about getting the game on and giving our juniors some cricket. All fixtures will be considered friendlies.
There will be no league fees payable.
If you have any questions just let me know. I will email again once fixtures are available to view but as a guide they will follow the u11 fixtures from the previous week with the odd exception where Delph will replace Honley B (subject to any changes from drop-outs following this email)
I have attached a pdf copy of the 2020 handbook which contains contact details for all managers.
I look forward to seeing some of you over the rest of the summer and to seeing some cricket at last.
Please note that at this stage we are still awaiting Covid-safe recreational cricket guidelines which the ECB have stated will be issued this week. All cricket will be subject to these guidelines.
